PAFDA Advances Consultations on Cosmetics Testing Regulatory Framework

PAFDA (Punjab Agricultural Food and Drug Authority) reported consultations in September
2026 with Punjab’s Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department regarding a stronger
cosmetics-testing regulatory framework, laboratory capabilities, standards and priority
testing parameters.
PAFDA hosted a series of consultative visits from the Food Safety and Consumer Protection
Department, led by Ms. Azubah Azam, Additional Director General, along with Mr. Khalid
Awan, Deputy Director (Technical) and their team, to advance discussions on strengthening
the regulatory framework for cosmetics testing in Punjab. The delegation was received by
Dr. Mazhar Iqbal, Member (Pharma), PAFDA, and the technical team. Discussions focused on
interdepartmental coordination, regulatory requirements, stakeholder roles, and a strategic
roadmap for the phased implementation and expansion of cosmetics testing.
The engagements also included a review of laboratory capabilities, applicable standards, and
priority testing parameters to support an effective and science-driven regulatory framework.
The consultations reflect a shared commitment to strengthening regulatory systems,
enhancing laboratory capabilities, and advancing quality assurance in cosmetics testing to
safeguard consumer interests and public health.
