PRA issues guidelines for aesthetic service providers

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has issued special guidelines for aesthetic clinics, spas,
beauty salons and parlours across Punjab, directing them to prominently display the
instructions at their cash counters.
According to a PRA spokesperson on Monday, a five percent Punjab sales tax is applicable to
services provided by aesthetic clinics, spas, salons and skin and laser treatment centres. All
such businesses are required to register with the PRA, failing which they may face legal action.
The spokesperson urged consumers to verify the sales tax charged on service fees, warning
that charging tax above the applicable rate constitutes an offence under the law.
The PRA also clarified that handwritten or temporary receipts are not acceptable and
consumers should insist on receiving proper digital receipts for payments. Complaints
regarding refusal to accept digital payments can be lodged through the PRA Sahulat App or
the authority’s social media platforms.
The spokesperson further clarified that the sales tax collected from consumers constitutes
government revenue and cannot be treated as business income.
